What we talk about when we talk about love? About doing it yourself. When Rea figured out how to talk to adults some time in the mid-nineties, “self” was her first word. Scrape your knees yourself. Sleeping on the wooden floor or staying awake for nights in the forest yourself. Drawing circles in the sand, waiting for the wind. Drawing circles in the varnish, one hundred thousand. When the Jura collapses over your head or a sandstone on your ankle forbids you to fly—and anyway, Iceland is always very far away. Then “self” is a home. The first word Rea ever sang, not sure: Maybe it was “together”. BlauBlau Records, early summer 2022
